Oradea is increasing its fleet of new trams with nine new trams. Mayor Florin Birta signed today, December 28, the contract for their purchase with the director of Astra Vagoane Călători SA, Marian-Mihail Călin. This company is the only one to have submitted a bid in the procurement procedure for the trams, which will be financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
It should be noted that there is a possibility of adding 16 more trams to the contract, if the source of funding for them is identified.
The contract value for the supply of the nine trams is 78,750,000.00 lei excluding VAT (8,750,000.00 lei/unit price excluding VAT).
Trams purchased have a delivery period between 12 and 18 months from the start order. Of these 9 trams, 3 are bi-directional and 6 are unidirectional.
The bi-directional ones are very efficient, as they can serve public transport when work is being carried out in certain areas of the city, and it is no longer necessary to stop their circulation on those sections.
The 9 trams will be purchased within the projects “Modernization of the tram fleet in the Municipality of Oradea – stage 1” and “Modernization of the tram fleet in the Municipality of Oradea – stage 2”. The two projects are implemented by the Municipality of Oradea through the Internationally Funded Projects Management Department.
“We want to increase the attractiveness of urban public transport by tram, which, compared to other means of public transport, has a larger capacity, low energy consumption and short travel times on the track, which is, in many places, separated from the rest of the road traffic,” says Mayor Florin Birta.
Trams will be air-conditioned, have 100% lowered floors and recover energy when braking. Their length will be 26 and 28 metres and the minimum capacity will be 168 passengers, of which at least 40 will be seated.
These trams will be added to the existing fleet, which includes the 20 trams purchased with European funds through the Regional Operational Programme and delivered between 2020 and 2022.
